Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

You do not need a referral from your GP to see a chiropractor. Only a chiropractor will know if your problem may be helped by a chiropractor.

Do I need to remove any clothing?

No. The regular adjustments are just done in your street clothes.  Heavy winter coats are removed, however, there is no need to get undressed.

How long before I see a result?

Research shows that tissue healing occurs in 6-20 weeks depending on your state of health. The longer your problem has been there the longer it will take to get better. The severity, inflammation and swelling of a joint will require a time for tissue to heal. Six weeks usually for a short term problem and six months for a problem you have had for many months

What’s the difference between chiropractic and other treatment such as therapeutic massage, physiotherapy, osteopathy?
These are all valid and well-known approaches to health without the use of drugs and surgery.

The Chiropractor has always stood as the healthcare profession that helps your nervous system work to help you get better. The spine is the casing around the spinal cord; the chiropractor corrects the nervous system.

Physiotherapy started as a ‘post operative rehab therapist and in the last 30 years has moved to more a musculo-skeletal area of work.

Osteopathy has been philosophically focused on a healthy blood supply for over 100 years (though some similarities in technical work exist between chiropractic and osteopathy in Australia).

Do I have to do exercises as well?

'Hands on...' always encourages appropriate exercises: self-management and good healthy habits are as important as seeing your doctor. Remember to exercise and lots of water - chiropractic is about helping your body to help yourself!

Is the treatment long lasting or do I need to keep coming back?

The chiropractor can look at you for a simple back strain and get you standing up straight faster than anyone else. But that is a short-term goal: we as chiropractors at 'Hands On...' are fascinated by  how well a body can work when it receives a regular gentle whole body chiropractic correction. It is the regular adjustment that ensure good healing, re-patterning your posture and long-term improvements in your structure.  To be stronger for the long term and have long lasting health changes you need to commit to your health and have some long term commitment to a health goal.

'Hands On...' has many clients that choose to have a regular adjustment as part of their commitment to staying healthy. Those clients just keep coming back and after 30 years in practice we have clients that we have seen grow old with us!  Chiropractic adjustments are their guarantee to stay feeling great

Therapeutic massage is a tradition in all cultures; it will work with sore muscular strains but not create any change in your long-term health.

Chiropractic treatment works for both your short-term aches and pains and your long term health goals of greater overall wellbeing. Chiropractic helps your body in all its functions especially by stimulating the nervous system. Chiropractic works directly on your posture from toes to head; focusing on the health of your spine.

Chiropractic adjustments work by promoting a healthy feedback through the  nervous system.

Your whole body  will be improved with a healthy nervous system; like a healthy racing car,all the messages are co-ordinated and you are firing on all cylinders!

A happy brain results with all the messages co-ordinated and the tissues and organs working optimally.

Optimising your body function is the goal at every chiropractic adjustment.
